The rules for the creation of the domain names of the EU
Domain names must comply with the following conditions:
- the minimum length of a domain name are 2 characters
- the domain name may contain the characters "a-z", "0-9" and "-"
- a domain name can contain combining characters [IDN]
- the length of the domain name is more than 63 characters
- the domain name cannot begin or end with "-"
- a domain name must not contain two characters "-" for me
Each domain name must be unique. It is not possible to register a domain name identical with an already registered domain name.
The Domain.The EU supports the diacritics from 10.12.2009
Domains, which will not be able to register:
- -Letter codename States according to ISO-3166-1
- names from the list of reserved and blocked domains in the EU
- names from the lists drawn up in the Member States of the EU
- IDN names must use only characters a specific character set
- not all diacritical national characters must be supported. For example, it is not supported by the German sharp S
